Corfu, is a lush, mountainous Greek island in the Ionian sea, filled with cypress trees, olive groves and wondrous beaches. Corfu has been in the hands of many empires, with the centre of town offering a definitive Venetian feel, while the expansive coastline seems like an exotic world away.
When touring Corfu, visit the Achillion Palace of Princess Sissi and Kanoni - a place which overlooks the most picturesquely situated church on Corfu. Visit the Esplanade (Spianada), between the Old Fortress and Old Town, rumoured to be one of the best in Greece. Stop by the old royal Palace, which now happens to be the Museum of Asian Art, built by the French under Napoleon to resemble the Rue du Rivoli in Paris. Don’t miss the old fortress which was built by the Venetians in 1546 on the site of a Byzantine castle. The lovely Church of St. George looks like a Doric temple against the stunning backdrop of the island.
The sea that surrounds Corfu gives the island a unique character and creates a temperate climate and a breeze on the hottest days. The ceaseless motion of the sea has shaped the coastline. The sea offers many leisure facilities, one can swim safely near golden beaches with sand or white pebbles, diving in the clear sea, sailing in beautiful harbours and small bays and wind surfing on the waves. Corfu is absolutely amazing, and the variety of budget-friendly adventures to be had makes this place such an enticing treat.
Great experience in History, Culture and Religion.
